Lack of relaxation between successive stimuli in sustained muscle contraction is known as :

(A)

Tonus

(B)

Spasm

(C)

Fatigue

(D)

Tetanus

NEET - Medical UG-2016 Medium

Answer & Solution:

Solution: tetanus

Lack of relaxation between successive stimuli in sustained muscle contraction is known as tetanus. Tetanus, also called lockjaw, is a serious infection caused by Clostridium tetani.  If Clostridium tetani spores are deposited in a wound, the neurotoxin interferes with nerves that control muscle movement. Tetanus causes painful muscle contractions, particularly in the jaw and neck. It can interfere with the ability to breathe, eventually causing death.
